Cserszegi Fűszeres is the variety that reflects the women’s soul
The Cserszegi Fűszeres grape variety is a true Hungarikum. This Hungarian variety was cross bred by Károly Bakonyi in 1960. It is very important that the grape ripens every year so we don’t have to add sugar to the must as international wine taste does not like this. It produces a good quantity, but one shouldn’t think of mass production. It is resistant to fungal diseases. Bakonyi’s aim was to create an early ripening, fragrant variety, so as parents he chose Irsai Olivér and Tramini. It has really lovely flavours. As a surprise it is even winter hardy. Today, planted on 4284 hectares in Hungary, it is the third most widespread variety here, and it has also become an international variety, planted in Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania and Finland. Its wine is popular in the UK and in China.
“People used to say that having crossed a variety like Cserszegi fűszeres I really have to be an expert of the women’s soul. And they are right, because I have to be grateful for women for the success of Cserszegi fűszeres. Nature likes diversity. As there are not even two similar leaves on the branches, Cserszegi fűszeres can not be produced again. ” Károly Bakonyi

[…] As it is frost resistant, the frosts last year and this have not done too much damage. Its reliable crop is also increased by its resistance to rot. It is rich in extract as it usually ripens in the first half of September. In 2016 we managed to keep part of the yield on the vine for longer. One of the most beautiful wines from the 2016 vintage. Vivid, vibrant floral frangrance with a hint of spice (white pepper) and fine Muscat tones in the background. Characteristic, lively acids. Full body, long sip. Rich aromas, fruity, complex. Finish with minerality. Perfect match with starters, soups, poultry. Read more about Cserszegi fűszeres here. […]
